OK, so this's my humble attempt for an OC for Tyshea's comic Salad Days. His name is Julian Sagona and he's a seventeen-year-old manticore. Here's his sheet: [link]

His clawed hands aren't visible on this one, but they are on this unsuccesful drawing: [link]
He usually keeps his claws retracted though. In that case, he has normal hands. ;)

I based Julian off a guy named Jaco, a bassist I met around my high school and church several times and harbored (and still harbor, I shamefully admit) a crush on! Luckily, he doesn't have a DeviantArt account! :blushes:

Sadly, my skills in manga drawings aren't so great yet, so sorry for messing up his head-body ratio among other things! ;) I own Julian Sagona, Salad Days and its characters are owned by :icontyshea:

NOTE ABOUT CREATION:
1. I know some manticores accounts describe them as having wings, but I decided against that. I based 'Jules' off several different manticore pictures and I've seen a lot of them without wings, which I preferred.
2. I also chose him to have a dinosaur-like dragon's tail, rather than a scorpion's because it seemed more natural in the design.
3. They're also often described as having a vermilion (red)-colored fur. I tried drawing this, but it ended up looking very silly and unreal, so I opted for brown. His sister however do have some red and orange streaks in their fur.
4. Manticores have three rows of teeth, but I guessed you wouldn't notice that unless he opens his mouth wide, so I just draw him with very obvious fangs when he smiles.

Any ideas for your own Salad Days character, by the way? What kind of creature for example? :)

I don't see anything wrong with the head-to-body ratio. You did a good job with this one. The facial expressions on the side are very well done, too.

Well, thanks. It's just that I've only recently started to draw manga, so I often think the head/body ratio is wrong. I was only told a short while ago that the proportions in this style are suppossed to be a bit off. :)

But anyways, thanks again for the compliment and the fave! ;)
